ELLE GUREVICH composer pianist performer

Emerging musician Elle Gurevich is bursting onto the New York music scene with her original musical “Kid of New York”, set to premiere this fall. Her work has been performed at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, Juilliard, and internationally in Salle Cortot and the Chigiana Academy.

Her music spans genres, from atonality and minimalism to jazz and theatrical traditions. Elle explores complex themes throughout her work; her song cycle “4 Queer Arias” navigates the turmoils of queer artistry; she is currently working on a tripart series “Gaia”, conjuring scenes of Earth before humans arrive and after we pass.

Above all, Elle’s music prizes emotional depth and resonance. In performing, she brings that same depth to her work as a collaborative and chamber pianist, partnering with musicians and ensembles across a wide range of contexts, both professional and academic.

Elle’s compositional work evolved from her background as an award-winning ensemble and solo piano performer (most recently, she won the Barbara Brandt Concerto Competition and earlier the Grand Prize at the Young Pianist Competition of New Jersey). She has performed at the Metropolitan Opera, a role, for which she was prized as a “clear pealing voice” by the New York Classical Review.

Elle was previously a child actor, appearing in “The Americans”, “High Maintenance”, “Supergirl”, “WandaVision”, as well as in the lead role in “Metronome in Time”.

“KID OF NEW YORK” MUSICAL

As part of the Future Voices series, Elle was commissioned to write her first full-length musical, “Kid of New York”, which is set to premiere September 25 at 54 Below NYC. The piece follows a young boy as his first subway ride alone turns into a journey of discovery through New York's neighborhoods and people. Elle wrote the book, music, and lyrics for this tribute to her home city.
